I recently attended training at the Beck Institute in San Francisco.  The Beck Institute was founded by Dr Aaron Beck, who developed CBT during the 1960s.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the primary evidence-based treatment approaches used by psychologists.  In a review by the  Australian Psychological Society, CBT was endorsed as one of the best available treatment approaches for a range of mental health conditions.

During the course, I worked with Beck Institute trainers on treatment approaches to depression and suicidality.  It was very exciting to meet pyschologists, doctors and other health professionals from around the globe and share our experiences and ideas.

I was able to build on my existing CBT skills during three days of workshops, role-plays and activities.  During the course I went onstage with Dr Judith Beck, where I played the role of Marsha from Dr Aaron Beck’s interview in the 1970’s.

I’m looking forward to bringing the knowledge and tools provided by the Beck Institute to my patients at my practice in Marrickville.
